The Incredible Hulk, though far more entertaining and comprehensible than its predecessor, is still a film about The Incredible Hulk. This latest offering is essentially a chase film with lots of satisfying action, smashing my ultra low expectations while standing on its own two feet.

The Hulk as a comic book character is all about inner rage and the destruction he causes when he loses control. This could be fairly interesting and Edward Norton gives it a decent go but the film largely glosses over it for the sake of action. Unfortunately the most interesting instance of this NOT occurring was during a love scene where Bruce Banner nearly loses control. Interesting because if he did lose control, it would be hilarious… or perhaps that’s just my imagination.

So the story was standard, so too the acting but it achieved in areas other comic book films often fail at. Actual character development for the bad guys, a succinct introductory montage to catchup fresh viewers, a real sense of incredible strength rendered in decent cgi, a stunning flyover sequence of mountainside Brazilian slums, an amazing display of stomach muscles by a human being, and well… consistency.
