Edmund McMillen - Artistically Independent

THIS IS A CRY FOR HELP

Edmund McMillen has just released a CD “This is a Cry for Help Collection” containing 10 years of artistic independence, spanning work in games, comics and art. Who is he? We recently posted about his brilliant game Aether but he’s created so much more. $10 US ($17-$20 AUD) is a ridiculously small price for such an extensive collection of inspiring work.

Please watch the trailer for his CD after the jump. You may like it. You may even be impressed!

Independent game development is something I strongly believe in and support because it’s important and inspiring. Some of the most fun and interesting games to have come out recently are indie (World of Goo, Braid) and many more attempt to push the boundaries of games as an expressive artistic medium.

IGN have an in-depth article on Edmund McMillen which describes his work much better than I could.

And straight from the artist.

Wow, yeah that’s some seriously cool stuff!

As well as the psychotic drawing style – which I’m a huge fan of, his games always have interesting mechanics, that usually make me say “WHY?!”, then “well ok…”, then “THIS IS FUNN-NA!”.

Heaps of games in that trailer that I’d never seen before too. I might have to send him ten-er and get me a hold a one of them there CDs.

I also put down an order for a copy. Really looking forward to this one.
