Forget Guitar Hero. This is the best multiplayer rhythm game in existence, and what’s more, it can be played on consoles that were invented back in 1700! Here, two skilled players are attempting a song, no doubt, “on expert”. Look out for the rhythm/lead swap around the 1:15 mark. Amazing stuff, all the way to the end.

Blister are a jazz-funk piano duo from Birmingham, UK. Their members are two men, Stuart Jones and Martin “Sniper” Rowberry. They are blister-ingly good. The video above is their cover of Nightbirds by fellow British jazz-funk outfit Shakatak. For purposes of comparison, the original version of the song, released in the fashionable yet clearly frightening year of 1982, is provided below.

Fans of funk and boogie would be doing themselves a very good turn by checking out the rest of what’s on offer on Blister‘s YouTube channel. Do it for the love of the genre, the inspiring, energetic evidence of incredible talent, or the mere refreshing sight of two young British men engaging wholeheartedly and enthusiastically in something that doesn’t involve wearing hoodies, turntables or knives.

Awesome, so effortless! I’d love to see them pushed to their limits. This is the style I think I’d most like to master… what do you say Shu? I’m sure you and I could figure this out in an afternoon :P

Haha why not? They have an instructional DVD out if we need any help along the way (unlikely).

Also, ditto on liking to master this style. If only they had exposed this kind of stuff to young piano students in the traditional syllabi, I might have stuck with my lessons :P

Woah that’s unreal! Mastery’s the word, amazing skills and very funking funky. I’m still pretty sure they’re packing blades – guns for show, knives for a pro.

Alright, I love a challenge – I’m in for mastering this style too. Now let’s start at the beginning, can someone tell me how to switch my piano on?
