27/03/2009
It is possibly the greatest doughnut on Earth.
No your eyes do not deceive you. That is sugar-glazed cheese and white chocolate.

GO!GO!7188 – アンテナ
5/03/2009
Fans of the Japanese rock band GO!GO!7188 (myself included) are a lucky bunch. This prolific power trio has been releasing material every year since their debut in 2000 – in total, that’s an impressive fifteen singles, seven original studio albums, three live albums, a handful of DVDs, two cover albums and a Best-Of. And that’s not even counting the side-projects (yes, they’ve even had time for a few of those). アンテナ (ANTENNA) is their latest studio offering, but after nine years of constant recording, touring, and generally rocking out, is the quantity of material finally starting to outweigh the quality?

THE WRESTLER
20/01/2009
Wrestling, the WWF/WWE variety, may be scripted and staged but it doesn’t mean it isn’t real. It’s entertaining, dramatic, humourous and violent, but it’s also very human. Admittedly I love wrestling. A love reinforced by The Wrestler.

PEARL CAFE
16/12/2008
It’s that time again. All you’re after is a café that you can trust, that you can always come back to. To serve great food and great coffee, served by friendly people. That cares about how it presents itself. A place you can introduce others to with confidence. Pearl Café is that place.

ANOUK
7/12/2008
It seems everyone in Brisbane knows about this insanely popular Paddington breakfast-lunch destination. On the weekend it’s common to encounter a line 10-20 deep and thus it took several months of drive-by reconnaissance to finally decide to just line up like the rest. But was Anouk worth it?

MY SASSY GIRL · 엽기적인그녀
14/11/2008
Some things take you by surprise. Sure, I’d heard about My Sassy Girl before – it’s South Korea’s highest-grossing comedy of all time, and if ever there was a Korean movie that non-Koreans I spoke to knew something about, this would be it. So, having been released in 2001, why did it take me all of seven years to finally catch up with it? I’m not sure. The important thing is that I did, and it took me by surprise.

BLUE SMOKE BBQ
7/11/2008
This American Brisbane institution makes the best chilli buffalo wings in Queensland and what better a night to feast than on US election night 2008. I hoped to attempt their infamous 3rd Degree. Fortunately on this historic night, I was not disappointed.

THE VIRGINS – THE VIRGINS
24/10/2008
Way back in May, I posted a funky number called Rich Girls by New York new-wave rockers The Virgins. A month later, they released their eponymous debut album which is still, at the time of writing, only available in America. A short while ago, however, I managed to track down an import copy here in Brisbane and I’m glad to say that it was well worth the (minimal) effort that went into obtaining it.

I WISH I WERE THE MOON
23/10/2008
I wish I were the Moon is a delightfully simple but very cute game. The objective is to discover all possible endings and should only take a few minutes of your day.
The (most likely) final ending is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Wild Chilli Chocolate, obtained a few months ago at the Portside Wharf Coffee and Chocolate Affair. The following is an unveiling in stages.
And to think it took this long for a chocolate and chilli related post…

YUM YUM PEKING DUCK
14/10/2008
Yum Yum Peking Duck creates the best Asian food in Brisbane. Within this tiny Darra restaurant is a fantastic array of Hong Kong / Chinese dishes, so ludicrously delicious, it is a crime that this place is still relatively unknown.
